Organic Sencha Ashikubo

Organic Sencha Ashikubo

Harvest: 2024 First Flush Spring Shincha

From the gorgeous Ashikubo valley in Japan'sĀ Shizuoka region, this sun-grown, organic sencha is a stunning example of evolving Japanese green tea cultivation and culture.

Made from the Yabukita cultivar, and undergoing a long drying process under the supervision of master tea producer Mr. Kunihiro Yoshimoto, our Organic Sencha Ashikubo has a bright green liquor with startling clarity. While most sencha presents as herbaceous, this organic sencha has beautiful notes of tropical fruit, toasted cereal and nuts, and just a hint of parsley.

You may have noticed that this sencha is the only organic green tea we carry from Japan. This is because Japanese tea production historically includes the addition of nitrogen to the soil to achieve the famed umami flavors in its green teas. This leaves many organic Japanese green teas lacking in flavor and composition. After a long search, we are delighted to bring this organic sencha to you. It has a magnificent sense of place and a lovely traditional profile while still exhibiting lively character that's all its own.
